Gaby Aghion, an Egyptian-born Parissiene with an eye for fashion and what would be considered pretty on women, started in 1952. Gaby felt that the current clothing line was too stiff and formal and wanted a softer more feminine look. She used fine fabrics and created outfits that could be sold off the rack and called them, “Luxury Prêt-a-Porter”. She and her partner hired young new inexperienced talent to become Chloé designers and her notion apparently paid off. Her success came quickly as the public loved the style she put into her Chloé clothing.

Some of the Chloé clothing consisted of soft gauzy blouses and long skirts. This was considered as elegant and luxurious daywear, but yet soft enough to be comfortable. Many prominent people enjoyed the clothing known as Chloé fashion including but not limited to Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelly and Brigitte Bardot. It wasn’t just these few that loved Chloe, women everywhere began wearing the new beautiful but basic signature designs.

After the original business was sold and under new management, the designs remained but expanded even further to include signature low-rise jeans, vintage lingerie and simple yet elegant dresses and blouses. Chloé clothing had a look all their own, but it was a look that was loved by all. Recently, the tide has been changing with the jeans women are wearing.
